AKG N6128/23 Power Transformers and Power Cable
« on: September 20, 2015, 08:10:52 PM »

I've got 3 N6128/23 power supplies that are paired with C61 mics.  All of the supplies are labeled "110/220" on the bottom, but they all seem to only have 220V as an option, and since I'm in the US I need to run them at 110V.

Looking inside, the transformer seems to only have one set of primaries.  However, these don't look like they've been replaced.

Is there something I'm missing?

Also, one of them supplies has a jack that is a 2 pin like the ones on old EMT 140s.  Any idea where I can find these cables?  I know that I could replace the jacks, but I could also use the same cables for other purposes, so a source would be helpful.

Thanks!

I am on the road right now, and cannot access my schematics, but as far as I remember, the 110/220 label is misleading: most of the N6128 supplies delivered to the U.S. I have seen lack a voltage selector switch, and have a single, non-tapped primary on the input transformer for either 110 or 220 Volts AC.

Some of the supplies used a two-pronged AC chassis mount receptacle. A matching connector may be hard to impossible to find.

Thank you Klaus!

Not the answer I was hoping for, but it's good to know!  ;-)

I'd love to know if there are any replacement transformers that someone can recommend for these small box AKG Supplies. There are so many of them around here.

Not to my knowledge. Not even the simpler, considerably more valuable Neumann NG supply for U47, or the popular NK or NN supplies with their dual-tap inputs has seen any aftermarket transformer action, so I doubt someone will engineer one for the relatively few and quite small, AKG N6x boxes.

I believe Mercury Magnetics does custom transformers and I think they will rewind old transformers as well.  Contact them.

Mercury Magnetics specializes in guitar amp transformers and while very good are also quite expensive.

Heyboer is another USA transformer manufacturer that can do custom work; Edcor can as well, more affordably most times.
