...but indicating actually...what?
A desire for authentic, analog, discrete circuitry, old-fashioned, well-made mics with genius, unsurpassed capsule quality, trying to be experienced in an impersonal, perfect, seamless, Teflon, digital world?

Are we ready to climb the barricades for imperfect mics that move the soul, even if less than ideal in rendering objective reality, and priced out of 90% of users' budgets?

Sales reports will tell. Having used them in the past I have no desire to purchase one myself.

Now, where's that KM-84 re-issue?

I think the reason is more that it's like looking at pornography. Which is similar to what those pics are to me. Stimulating.

I second the motion of a KM84 reissue! That one doesn't seem like it would be too hard.

Add to that they would sell thousands of them if priced well. It makes too much sense to ever happen though.

I pause at that thought: what makes a person so skeptical to automatically assume failure rather than success when success makes the most sense?

Re-issue: Ahhh, the desire is there, the will, even the capacity. Now if only the magic wand could conjure a certain metal tube, then a re-issue of a mike whose first character  is "u" followed by a "4"......

It's in demand, it's been years since they made them, they "moved on" to low cost Sennheiser driven low cost surface mount construction and there are no plans I've seen to do it. I also would not assume they would have 100% success with it even if they tried. Other recent products have been a disappointment for many, which drives up the costs for the tried and true designs like the old KM series.

Isn't the capsule in the KM84 still available from Neumann at a high standard?

It seems like that would be the hard part of a reissue-- with the transformer perhaps second in line.

I'd be optimistic that it could be very good indeed if they decided to do it.

Yes,
Capsule components to remake a K84 are still being made (in a slightly modified form for KM184, KM100 series, etc.) And a reissue of the simple BV/09 107 transformer, as we saw with a much more sophisticated transformer type used in the U47fet reisse, is also doable.

The reason rests with management. Apparently Sennheiser has decided this is not economically viable.

Just give it some time. They probably want to gauge the feasibility of reintroducing another legacy mic after the numbers for the U47fet reissue come in.
