I'd get excited if I thought that also meant old school, analog-like headroom in those files. Will they do anything to discourage the loudness war at 96k24 the way they have NOT done with MFiT?

i.m.h.o. - I tunes has set back the state of audio fidelity nearly 100 years. Too high a price for convenience. A switch to high-res is more than a decade over due, even if one accepts the shortcomings of digital downloads. (Liner notes, anyone?)

Thanks for that tip, Dana.

It looks like everyone is taking note of Pono's bow wave of support for HD audio.  Now Apple's new OS8 will take the shackles off!

support for HD audio?  my iphone and ipod (or the one's i've owned) could play 24/96 .wav files no problem...  i don't think support for this is new.  maybe i'm wrong?  it was my understanding the iOS was capable of 24/192 from early on ~2004...

Not according to that article. Maybe it was down-sampling and truncating?

hmmm...  interesting.  i'd have to do some tests.  i had a 30 pin connector that had line level outs and spdif in/out for my ipod.  i'll have to go dig it out and find an older ipod to do some tests...

nevermind.  there is just line level -10dB on the pinout on the older ipods.

i think it will do up to 24/48.  still looking if it will do 96kHz audio without converting it first.
