The Grace m905 looks good, it has a good ergonomics and the specs are GREAT. When I was getting ready to get a monitor controller a couple of years ago I seriously looked at the Grace m904b and the Avocet. I decided to go with the Avocet and have been very happy I made that decision. Maybe I should have waited. FWIW

Avocet is sure nice too ;-)

I'm wondering how A/B comparison is done with the Grace, comparing the source to the mastered content in a level matched way?

the grace 906 has a quick calibration +/-10dbs for every input, it make it easy to compare source/mastered contend at the same apparent loudness, and it's ultra fast to set up.
i believe the 905 must provide the same features

if i understand the diagram, there is only one volume control stage which is a servo controlled resistor switch, and the calibration affect this one directly.
so DA to one volume control to output it's pretty transparent!
this is for the 906 but i am sure they kept that design for the 905
