Anyone using the Maselec mtc-1?
« on: February 19, 2013, 09:46:37 PM »

I'm looking at options for an insert switcher and this came across my radar. It's pricy, but with an analog mastering system it has some nice efficiencies.

I hadn't come across that before, Dana - thanks for bringing it to my attention; you won't get many of those to the pound, dollar or Euro but I've no doubt it's about as good as one can get.

I've played with the first unit briefly at last years Musikmesse.

It's a perfect unit, feature wise and sound wise. All XLRs, insert switcher with M/S, filters and parallel processing on selected channels. 6 inserts is more than enough for me (and even if I had more gear I would not have any problem in having more than one piece of gear in the same insert).

All this and it is also a complete monitoring solution! I thought it was pricey too but after looking at all its functions I think it is actually very decent priced for what you are getting. Though here in Europe probably it's cheaper than in the US?

It is on my to buy list, if the business keeps growing I'll definitely buy this.

I also like that there are two places where the processor order can be flipped.  The monitor section looks comprehensive, I just wonder how I would do source vs mastered AB checks.  I suspect that having a separate DAC with a gain pot would work.

Just got my new MTC-1X. Yes, X.

Dana, this may be of interest to you. Monitor level offset is now standard.

I'd love one, but just can't justify the price.....yet.

Yeah, they're not cheap, but after only a week of having one, can't even imagine a life before it. The build quality is phenomenal, the workflow ergonomics are very well thought out, and the sound quality is exceptional. I had actually ordered the MTC-1, but got an email from the vendor that they were in the middle of making some more and that I'd have to wait a little while. When the MTC-1X showed up, I was so damn glad I waited. I had already mentally planned out how I was going to work around the lack of built-in monitor offset, but when I opened the box and saw it, I literally yelled out "wooooo!" Hell of a nice surprise that was.

Glad they put that in too.  It's great to see a company rethink a design and update it so readily.  There are so many potentially great products that are *almost* there but for a detail or two...

That alone makes me want to get one!

It's the one thing, I have always wanted. A complete holistic Maslec set-up. Complete!
Fore once, even if I have to change the Comps or Eq's etc.. The MTC, is to die for.

Cheers,
