Passive MS Matrix
« on: March 28, 2013, 03:26:22 PM »

I want to make MS passive matrix with good transformers and "width" control.

If anybody has experienced the same situation please share you opinion.

I have tried http://www.ka-electronics.com/KAelectronics/MS_Matrix/MS_Matrix.htm but I havent been satisfied with the results.

I made one from transformers, and it's not clean enough to use in mastering, to my ear.  I assume that better transformers would be helpful, but there are a number of active solutions that may work too.

What transformers did you use? Just for curiosity...

They are pretty well know transformers, PM me if you need to know. They were not super expensive, so I'm imagining I got what I paid for. ;-)

FWIW, I have to agree with Dana. I have a set of Jensen transformer MS matrix http://www.jensen-transformers.com/as/as055.pdf and they are anything but transparent.
I'd take a look at the active solution here http://www.diyrecordingequipment.com/projects/ka-electronics-precision-mid-side-ms-matrix/. nice and simple yet flexible implementation with a great sound.
All the best,
