Interconnect Cabling
« on: February 28, 2013, 04:30:27 PM »

I'm looking for some suggestions on interconnect wiring, since I've been thinking about an insert switcher.

I had several different brands of cable over the years, mainly Mogami, Canare, ProCo, Star Sound, etc. Yesterday I inserted each of these between my DAC and ADC, and made recordings of the same music, to see if I could hear or measure any differences, etc.  Since these were mostly short runs, not much showed up on the meters, but I was indeed able to hear some tonal differences in the wire.

The Mogami was sounding good to me, but the Star Sound was better to my ear (both analog quad cables). I'd like to check out a few more brands in this test setup.

What are you liking? Why?

Are you listening to the TPR or TPM cables?

Our local tech has recommended Gotham wire in past conversation, I'll have to give him a call to get more info.

I may head over to the hi-fi shops to get samples of what they like as well.  There are some local companies here doing interconnects in-house.

Looking forward to your feedback on the TRP.

Dana,
I am using Gotham GAC-2 for all of my AES digital and analog balanced interconnections. Neutrik gold XLR plugs.

Hi Dana, I've got a mixture of Belden, Canare Quad, Mogami, monster, etc.

But if I were recabling today, I'd use Belden 1800F for both analog and AES. High quality copper with Neutrik gold XLRs.

No need for kryptonite antimatter cables IMO.

Best, JT

I just bought a bunch of 1800F for my new room.  Works well, and it's nice to have all of the cabling made out of the same wire.
