WUMP 26 ( Discussions & Techniques )
« on: January 14, 2013, 10:48:43 AM »

Ello ello!

This is where we explore the MUSIC!

We'll keep the discussion ON, here. Some of us prefer to throw in the "techniques used" early, in the conversations and some prefer to walk us through the experience.

Express, as you see fit.

Personally,
I have always been fond of the slower ballad.
Great melody overall , also the band and all that good stuff.
Finding the mix a tad.. too hot!

Nonetheless, I can't wait to hear what some voltage packed boxes and some digi juice from the group, is going to do to this beautiful track.  :)

Cheers,

Strange ..nobody's uploaded any masters yet!
Unusual as that may be, we'll soon see an influx.

Deadline 25th January 2013.

to upload, you'll need an FTP program.  Filezilla works great for me

Unfortunately, 2013 has been far too crazy to get started on this. Hoping to find some time! I love these things.

Hi Rick,

A quick synopsis of what WUMP means to us all here, participating in the mastering jam-up.

WUMP is a project where different engineers master the same mix, comment each other’s work and share what they did, and why and how they did it.

The purpose of the WUMP is to demystify mastering and help each other become better engineers.

Participating in the WUMP means, that you:
- make the best master you can in ten day's time.
- upload your master close to the deadline.
- into the WUMP FTP folder.
- download and comment on the other masters of your group.
- post what you did to the mix, to attain the master etc.
- discuss the outcome as a collective.

There will be no revisions. Period.

Hope that helps
Cheers,
KAyo

PS: Someone will chime in with the meaning to the abbreviation/ acronym of WUMP!

It may be a bit early, but mine is going up now (I worked on Yaar) and will be available shortly.

All the best with your entries everybody, looking forward to hearing what's been done.

Thanks ggidluck.

I concur. Sure it's foreign.. but the melodies, universal to us all.

Not only, but, especially true for mastering engineers. When you find something in a song (through repetitive listening) that moment, that suddenly comes together and brings out the true nature, the melody, the realized meaning, the craftsmanship and .. *BOOM*, we recognize and appreciate that captured all encompassing moment! It's joyous!

The ending to SAI, did that to me. Real cool and earthy. Fond of that end.
Hopefully, some of you felt that sublime ending.

Keen to hear the gangs work.

Will upload mine tomorrow, also did YAAR.

Just a thought, wouldn't it be better to have the two groups according to which track we mastered, this time? As opposed to being randomly chosen? I guess that is, if we have enough entries for two groups. Probably thinking ahead too much! ;)

Can't wait to hear all the entries!

Hi Babaluma,

We did think of that .. but, as both tracks were offered to the group, and not knowing who took which one as a preference; we can only tell, once the person let's us know, on posting their choice/ review/ master.

So the pre-conceived group wasn't possible.

The dates, closing in people.
I will upload SAI, sometime tonight.
