Sync troubles...
« on: June 27, 2012, 03:34:26 PM »

Hi there,

After three days of pulling my hair out I've come here...this is my first post and I'm hoping I've come to the right place.

I just recently switched from a PC based system to a Mac.

I have a Yamaha O2R96 and had to buy a Motu 2408mk3 to interface it with the computer. Mixer connects to Motu via TDIF, Motu to computer via Firewire.

I have a Rosendahl sync that Ive been using for years, but technically do not need it as the Motu or Yamaha can act as the master clock, connecting to each other.

Anyway, I'm getting periodic, random digital ticks appearing in my audio signals. Has anyone ever come across this before? Sometimes it's 5 seconds and sometimes it's 30 seconds before the "tick". I have spoken to Motu and multiple people I know and everyone's at a loss.

It does indeed sound like a clocking problem... do you have well constructed BNC-BNC cables for your clock distribution?  I've had more than one situation where it was the cables and not the gear that gave me clock struggles... definitely something to look at.
