I'd be intersted to hear your results Mark. I use AudioMulch for basic gain changes, and when you move the knobs it automatically "sticks" to some positions, one of which is -6.0205991. I should stick a bit scope on it and see...

Time to print an ASCII core dump of the program,  you will see the instructions and their operands; and then you will be able to definitively pinpoint the issue....

PS. don't forget to fix it before restoring the new version.

To be perfectly honest, I cannot.

But that's not going to stop me from doing everything I can, whenever I can, to minimize loss. Sometimes the little things add up.

Agree with Twerk, I can't hear a difference, so some might argue it doesn't make a difference, but when possible I'm only dropping gain in "full bit" increments of 6.02... Bob Ohlsson gave a really good, simple, short explanation (as he often does), of just why it might be important, on GS recently, but I can't find it now. Less "rounding errors" or something, equalling less quantisation noise, right?

I am definitely interested to try it, I would be very surprised if I can hear it, even if technically it is correct to do it with many decimal places. But why not if we know it is technically superior our business is least damage when effecting technical / subjective enhancement etc.
