I've noticed that the two team lists in the other thread, and the actual mastered file names, don't always coincide, so it's a bit difficult to know who is who. I've just downloaded everything so far (only 9 out of 14?) I'm guilty too, I was listed as "Babaluma", but my file name is "Gregg Janman". Anyway, just for clarity could we make thee differences known?

Group 2I have my listening results for group 2.  i just wrote some notes and criticisms of what i was hearing.  i hope i don't come off as overly critical on this round. . .  it was a tough track that the mix already sounded great.  my main issues i was dealing with include phase issues especially on the drums, vocal sibilance and trying to keep the openness and fullness of the original mix while adding just a touch of volume.  i will post my notes tech notes later.

Original  -16.2     -0.0

Ed Littman -12.9  -0.1
nice.  i really like the de-essing on this.  very smooth and warm, but i feel the vocal isn't as clear as some other masters.  i also seem to be missing some other highs like the acoustic guitar sparkle etc. . .  maybe a little heavy handed on the limiter. . .  lots of silence before the start, maybe it's more than you'd put on a cd?

Joe_caithness     -13.0     -0.3
nice.  feels a touch dark.  i'm missing a little vocal clarity and overall air on the mix.  no fade in or fade out?

DOMC           -11.5     -0.0
the loudest of the group.  de noising?  it feels a little closed.  missing some sparkle compared to some of the others.  i'm drawn to the openness of the original mix compared to your master.  maybe a little heavy handed on the limiter. . .  need a fade out?

Herbeck  -12.3  -0.2
very good.  vocal seems a touch more tucked in that the original.

KAyo         -13.8   -0.0
very different.  audible clipping.  feels really bright in the 4k-8k range. . . a lot of that especially on the sides (and wider overall).  the vocal has lost a lot of its warmth.  also, i loose some of the drive of the bass.  this was the most drastic of the group.  you didn't address the fade in or start much, and it fades out a bit abruptly.

I'll go change the name of mine.  For those who've already downloaded.

Am I right in think we only have four entries in group one? I'll do the listening and report back with notes tomorrow!

A quick note to consider for evaluating entries:

In some of the past WUMPs, I've seen feedback focus on something that the listener didn't like, for example "low-end is too boomy for me", etc.  I propose a more professional spirit of evaluation.

If the goal of WUMP is to help others on the road to proficiency and artistic success, I draw on experience in other areas of training.  One thing that is clear, is that we not just pile on what we see wrong, but suggest or coach a correction that will lead the entry to an improved production.  Keep the comments pertinent, and honor what is working well while we suggest one or two areas to improve.

Keep the comments relevant and encouraging. Appreciate that folks spent some time and have chosen to be critiqued by peers.  In my book that is respectable.

Enjoy the listening!

PS Thanks to Kayo for setting this up!

I think there are five entries in group one.

I can only find four in the FTP folder: mine (Gregg Janman), Twerk's, djwaudio's (DW Specialised), and your's (Lunasound).

Which one am I missing?

Well if it's only four then it will make the listening easier! Setting some time aside for this tomorrow, and very much looking forward to it!
