I've decided to sell my gear and go ITH
« on: April 02, 2012, 04:27:33 PM »

Started to place pieces in the new room to feel it out.

In the end I could be content just staring out the window all day and master in my head

Rewiring is not my favorite either

Where on Earth did you relocate to, Dietrich? Is that still in NY?

Love the view!

One of my dreams to own a studio which "faces out" over somewhere, jealous!

There is a bird feeder out there somewhere but not in view for me. Hiking+biking trails around the corner. Cannondale/Moongoose down the road and they test bikes on the road + trails.

60 miles north of NYC.
Only negative is the order I need to place with GIK this week. Need more absorption pronto!

Serif brought up the idea of creating a 2nd faux pillar to bring balance to the room? thoughts?

Same here as my dream would be to have a studio in Whistler, BC, Canada over looking the Canadian west coast mountains

Very nice view dietrich & keep us posted on the build

Nah, just rip the first one out. Better views that way.

Is it a commercial office space? There's a lot of empty commercial spaces here in the Bay Area that I'm tempted to investigate.

commercial office/light industrial building. last tenant was art studio and previous a printer.
landlord is architectural glass company thus the view and view(and quality of the glass).

Found it on CL. Going direct to landlord is key. Landlord being local helps too

Honestly you should if possible.  If it's not too load bearing and can be done.  Failing that I'd make a faux one that looks as similar as possible for the other side.  Speaking for myself the lack of symmetry would get to me in time but I'm a bit of a nut in that regard.

+1 what Mark said. Asymmetry drives my OCD nuts!

It looks structural, so your best bet is probably making another one.

[Being serious this time.]

Assuming you can make structural changes to your space...

Put a steel post/beam in each corner and an I-beam between them. You'll be filling up the corners with bass traps any way so might as well put the posts there to be covered up.

There is an I-beam just above ceiling now. It is a complicated building as above my ceiling is 9feet of open space for half of the building. anything needs to be connected all the way up there one way or another

faux pillar will happen. ceiling tiles rating just .55 but there is 4-8" R13 above

I'd love to have a studio in the peak district of the UK, anyone who's visited knows why! Somewhere between Matlock and Bakewell would be nice!
