Ela M251 with stock green label 6072!
« on: March 15, 2012, 06:16:12 PM »

I've got a Telefunken ELA M 251 here, which had come from the original owner, who had it in storage for years.  The black lacquer seals are still on the head basket screws, and on the plastic body screw.

Amazingly, this mic seems to have come from the factory with a green-label 6072 tube installed in it.  It's very curious, because there are pictures of a 251 on coutant.org, that is just six serial numbers away from this one, that has a white paint GE Five Star 6072.

Fortunately, the mic sounds terrific as is, and it's apparently one of the few green label 6072s that passed AKG standards.  Has anybody else ever seen these in sealed 251s?

I have not. What is the serial number? If it is a relatively late ELA M, that might give a clue.

Serial number 954. The one on coutant.org is 963, with white paint.

Now that we know that no one thought it important enough to comment aside of me, the next question that comes to mind is: why does the screen print color of the (correct) tube matter to you?

Is the tube's imprint color of the same, low noise selected Five Star GE 6072 tube prescribed by AKG, which was originally installed in your mic, reputed to be inferior? Or is this a trivia question without much relevance in daily life?
