I wrote this short article for my site, it may be of interest to engineers starting out.

Gain structure

cheers

Fletcher:
An excellent primer indeed!!  I've seen some pretty weird stuff over the past couple of years... there are many who are actually more advanced  :o that "just starting out" who should read this [and take the information to heart!!!!]... which is why its been made a "sticky".

Peace

MikeRivers:
Nice job. I wrote a similar article many years ago (it's on my web site) that explains gain structure primarily from the analog standpoint, since that's about all there was when I wrote it.

All too many beginners complain that their tracks aren't hot enough and every opportunity to explain why (and why they shouldn't be, when first recorded) helps.

SafeandSoundMastering:
Many thanks for the sticky. :)

remohead:
Great article! if only more people took the time to understand it properly!

Thanks again,

Remo
