burnproof?
« on: February 29, 2012, 02:32:12 AM »

Anyone using the "burnproof" feature in Sonoris DDP Creator, or other apps?

If so, why?

If not, why?

Just curious.

I've been leaving mine off for years, never had a glitch from a buffer over/under run.

Thanks, JT

I had my Sadie "choke" on a burn about a year into using it (switched from 10+ years of Sonic Solutions). Talked to the people at Sadie and on the web-board and it was suggested that I turn on the burnproof function. It's been on ever since (about 5-6 years) and I've had no issues.
When I did employ it I was very concerned about possible adverse effects but honestly I haven't seen/heard any and now I don't even think about it.

If I remember correctly, SADiE were initially nervous about people using Burnproof on factory masters and advised against early on. That fear didn't turn out to be justified, and like you I keep that field ticked all the time.

I've found it useful on complex playlists where the burn would just stop without it, in that case it slows down to a write speed the system's comfortable with and I get my Red Book, just slower :-)

Buffer Under RuN Protection or 'burnproof'
i've also stopped unchecking that box recently.  it enables the writing to 'pause' if it detects that the buffer will run out and then resume burning when the buffer is back full enough to continue.  to me, it used to sound like places problems could arise so i never used it.  it is selected by default on sonoris DDP creator and several other programs i use and i've given up on unchecking it every time and haven't seen any problems in plextools.

a reliable source says that burnproof has no measurable errors at the stop/start point in his tests.

i've just stopped unchecking the box. . .  and use burnproof now.

No problems here with leaving burn proof on.

Sir Thomas, Is that with WaveLab?

Yes, I may get bold and leave it to the default "On" position next time.

One less box to uncheck!

Specifically, I am curious if the audio takes a different path ITB when using burn proof, a larger buffer perhaps.

I may even get crazy and do a blind ABX test ;-)

Cheers, JT

Jerry,

Yes you are correct we use WL6 and WL7.

We have never had a problem with leaving it on.
