Hi, I have a U89i here, mid to late 80's, missing the setscrew that holds the XLR connector in place.

Anybody know the spec on that screw? size? thread? I don't want to force anything in there... nothing I have fits easily.

I have done searches, and haven't found any diagrams of the physical layout/parts of U89 or U87 mics. If anything like that exists, please let me know.

Neumann uses a modified Switchcraft Male 3-pin XLR.

When I get a Neumann mic with the set screw missing, I remove the same (reverse taper!) screw from a standard male XLR chassis mount, grind off the excess on the screw's shoulder, so it fits into the mic's hole, and substitute.

Please see the attached exploded viw and parts list for the Neumann U 89 microphone. The screw in question is pos. 25, and available as a spare part from your Neumann Service Center.

Since the plug insert is NOT a Switchcraft part, Klaus's suggestion will probably not work...

I've been playing phone-tag with Neumann parts dept. for a few days. Apparently they have the part, I just have to be patient.
