channelstrips?
« on: August 26, 2004, 10:59:03 PM »

Alright guys, well, I have a quick question: What the hell is a channel strip? They seem cheaper (not always) than stand alone pres and whatnot, but ….yeah. What the hell? Whenever I ask anybody, they say  “wow, you’re a nub.” And walk away like a fuckin dick. Anyway, thanx guys.

a channel strip is the entire channel (only one) from a console.

typically it includes (but is not limited to, nor does it mean it has all of this) mic pre, EQ, aux sends, buss routing, line amp.....

most of the time the fader packs are not included.

channels strips are cheaper typically because they come from crappy consoles that some people are trying to tell you are awesome.

older desks (like some neves, helios, api, calrec) have individual modules for each section.  that is why you see a Neve 1066 (mic pre EQ) and not the whole channel strip. (because there isn't one.)

Also, many companies are making "channel strips" that are not from consoles, but are meant to mimic one.  Examples are the Manley VoxBox, Chandler TG Channel, Pendulum Quartet etc.  Some have dynamics as well as mic pre and EQ others don't.
