Where can i find good Membranes für resonators?
« on: November 22, 2010, 02:18:17 PM »

I, at the moment i am working on a problem in the 60 Hz area in my church, which drives my crazy while mixing the worship band every sunday.  It is a Floor to celling mode, and i want to use a 13cm deep airspace to install a membrane. I looking for a material that is around 8kg/m2 to hit my desired frequency.
The only thing i found was 1mm steel:

It is ceap and the dealer cut all the pannels to size.

Do you know any shops in Europe (delivery to germany) where i can find better membranes for such a pannel?

cheers

If the membrane is going to be horizontal (laying instead of standing) you will likely run into problems because of the membrane's self weight in this position. So you can try to work with a lighter system with some tension in it to compensate.

Thanks for your response Thomas.
Sorry that i write so late, but i can`t reach this forum since a long time, only white screen  Confused

So you think i have to calculate the "f" a little higher, than i need, to hit my desired frequency!?

Ok, so i can use a more thin steel plate for this resonator, or reduce the airspace.

good to know, and logical, but i never thought about this.
I have not used membranes in this applikation until now, so that is something new for me.
Can you give a rough nummber in % how much higher the tuneing has to be?

cheers

The forum goes off line for a couple of hours every day. Usually it's from around 0900 to 1100 GMT here in UK.

What's the size of the membrane(s)?

The size is 1,2m x 2m for each resonator.
This size is fixed, or can be made smaller, but not larger.
There will be a array of 10 resonators spread aroud the celling.

By the way. I will be in Bruessel between christmas and new year, since my sister lives there now.
Is there any chance to meet you for a coffe or beer. I would also like to listen to one of your FTB rooms.

cheers

Constantin,

Did you find your membrane materials?? We typically use a 1lb/SF vinyl product for membrane traps.. it's available from many sources including acoustics first and other foam distributors.. It has worked well for me.. remember to use rockwool inside the cavity to broaden the Q on the trap tuning... (I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things)..
