I think this is the post I most agree with, I don't call mine a Sontec, it's not, it's not built by them and therefore isn't, pretty simple.

(snip)

In my mind that seems far enough removed, an is no way advertised or talked about with clients as "A Sontec".

I don't know, Joe. It's cutting it awfully close, but your website seems to speak otherwise...

I would have thought the language and grammar used shows this is not trying to replicate the original, the use of speech marks, language such as "based on" and no mention of the S word anywhere.

I have seen, in the past at least, MEs go on the record calling these things Sontec Clones, which have made an effort not to.

PS, here it is for anyone interested:

I'd love to  custom build the 'Dietrich' eq.

Dangerous/Muth build with current DM switches. Sontec op amps, stereo gang control,
4 bands, transformer in/out with bypass options on the transformers each way. M/S switchable internally. black on black. super dim lights to show engaged
done.

4 bands

I think you want 6. Plus 2 shelves.

I have the Bax for shelving and other eq options for those 2 bands.
the 'dietrich' eq is what i need next

though adding an extra tube mid band on the unit would be pretty hot

Yes that is what I have been thinking- a bandaxall circuit with Op-Amps for the and hi and low shelves, and then a bandaxall tube design (much like the Fairman or Klein and Hummel original 1960s circuit) for a couple of mid peak/dip bands.

If the BAX had just one mid band it would be perfect...

Apparently Gyraf are working on a tube EQ similar to the K&H UE100.

I see what you did there. That's what I want. Would it be overkill to use a Bax with "that"?

I don't know, to be honest. I haven't used the Bax, but also haven't really used shelves for 'tilting' much in the past... so the shelves on the 462 haven't yet seen much use for that purpose either.

I sold my passive EQ to Jonas, and when he arrived to pick it up, I was "just finishing up the new one" - I.E, I had a temporary panel with attenuators on it.

Took me a year before I got the new one finished up, and Jonas was using my EQ. Grr.

Yes I guess so.

It was a 2u mic preamp that went to make space, no great loss.
