I know Jim Williams will adjust the tube Bias for very fair price, but was just wondering anyone else's experience with that.

Do you tune your EMT 140 by ear or thingamajig tool??

"When we make music we don't do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we play music the playing itself is the point."  -Alan Watts

If you haven't already seen it, check out Greg Hanks excellent article which originally appeared in Recording Engineer/Producer magazine in 1982

Interesting stuff on Dan Alexander's website about tuning plates.

See:  http://danalexanderaudio.com/emt.html

Also  JCC and Associates  http://www.platereverb.com/home.htm   sell upgrade/tuning kits for 140 plates which apparently include a calibrated wrench to aid correct tensioning of the springs.

Hope this is helpful,
