I have an evil plan.

I shall build an evil Mega-corporation which will become wildly successful.

I shall blackmail Terry and force him to come and work for me.

Bill will surely follow.

Then -one by one- ALL of your lost, wandering souls shall be mine.

I shall allow you people to interact with them like one enormous evil petting zoo!

... a - ha ... a - hahaha ... ahahaHAHAHAaaaaaaaaaa!!!

I have the feeling that I have more experience in my little finger than you do in your whole body about audio electronics..

How can an impending complete forum change/move not be a sticky on every forum?

Odd.

I'm one of many who use bookmarks, and so had no idea.

Does anyone knows if  all threads of the old forum will be locked?

I've noticed (with the exception of The Acid Test), that the forums are listed in reverse order. Saloon on top, WW on the bottom.

I really hope it can survive the move.

Having ported databases from old cms's to new ones over the last decade, I can say it's usually possible to create scripts for en masse conversion, but this one is not widely used, so custom work is possibly needed. Let's hope for that.

To me this should be a given.

If the problem is the current forum software, switch to the new software (ideally using the CSS and other templating options to make it a little less generic and more prosoundweb in appearance), write scripts to move all the old threads and users over, and just make the switch in the two hours of downtime they seem to have every day.

Users shouldn't have to worry about registering to the new forum, or have to differentiate between old forum threads and new ones, they should just see a bit of a difference in the user interface next time they log in.

There's a lot more to it than what appears on the surface - suffice to say that was looked into and agreed upon as a relative impossibility.

I have a strange feeling about all this.
I use bookmarks too, and I only figured out the changes to come by checking a harmless topic.
Why isn't there a sticky, or annoucement ?
Would I have discovered out of the blue (ha ha)a stereotypical forum on a cold day of february while login to my most used URL of the web ?
Terry is pretty silent about the change, and Brad's allusions sound rather scary on the "there's more to it than it seems" side.
I really really want this community to live on as it is now.
Is there something we can do ?

Cheers

To be fair, Terry and I only found out it was live very recently, that's a large part of my concern. I don't care for how this has rolled out.

As far as my 'more to it' posts, there's nothing to hide and nothing sinister at work, I'm simply making the point that there are a variety of issues at work here on a technical level which is why the decision was made by TPTB to proceed as we have. I've not itemized them as they are rather boring to 99.9% of people out there.

REP will remain alive and well as long as you good folks continue to share your experience(s) with us.

it is not the building, but the people in it that make a place comfortable

if the building starts to leak, people can go elsewhere

it's not that far to walk...

Just felt strange to have to go re-register, then wait for the "approval" process...

Understand it, but its kind of an odd welcome to the brave new world.

tick...tick....tick...tick....

Have I been rejected yet?
