Anybody see the new one?  The geek in me loved it, but I'm not sure it was even a 'good' movie.

I don't remake records I worked on 25 years ago.

I don't like reruns with new actors.

Clue: Hollywood; It's over. Go home.

I saw parts of it. Very high geek content. Immensely loud. Embarrassing script-wise. Excellent Daft Punk music video by all accounts.

Well it definitely was not a re-make, just a sequel.  It even had the same actor as the main character, who is a great actor.

I guess I'm just a big geek  Very Happy

I saw it today.  It was OK.  It was loud.  Olivia Wilde is cute.  I never saw the first one.  I caught the story and the action.  It was part Zen, part "dude".  I could sit through it again but have no interest in seeing the first one.

They don't make a movie when they have a movie to make. They make a movie when it's next on the schedule.

meh..

Too much media.

Yeah that's true i suppose.  It's my understanding though that there are thousands of scripts that get rejected, so it's not as though there's not a pile of material to choose from.

I bet there are great scripts, and no balls to choose them.

I don't know about when "they make a movie" but I do understand something of "when they release a movie".  They release a movie like Tron when they know the same actor (Jeff Bridges) starring in another movie, True Grit, is going to win an academy award and they want to cash in on the buzz.

Not a bad strategy!  Jeff Bridges is great too.

Everything you need to know:

index.php/fa/16091/0/

There used to be an old axiom around Hollywood that went something like "there's only three scripts in Hollywood and a hundred thousand rewrites." Truer than it should be.

Just like the music biz, no one wants to take chances on something off the beaten track; they try to make it a science. Rework the formula, sign a proven star, toss in some CGI, market it aggressively, break even on the box office, make your money in DVD sales.

Tron's "plot" was corny the first time around--it did break some visual ground with CGI, though, back in the day when optical FX were the norm.

I think you could make a pretty good case for Avatar being a rewrite of Tron, but with a bigger budget.

I saw him on Charlie Rose around the time Crazy Heart came out, and he said that The Dude was the character he most identified himself with.. and was most like.

I believe it.
