I think you could make a pretty good case for Avatar being a rewrite of Tron, but with a bigger budget.

Agreed sort of.
I thought Avatar was Pocahontas in Blue, a combination redemption story and morality play with cool fx for the time and that the original Tron was the Saviour myth in Blue, a redemption story with cool fx for the time.
Took my son to see the new Tron yesterday and found no real redemption and givin the high ticket price AND "3D surcharge" no morality either.
Left ME blue.
