I've been mixing to an MR-1000 for a year and a half and it's been a great asset in my toolbox. I need to check out the rack mount version.

FYI, I talked with Korg USA this morning about the DSD recorder product line. Their CS rep said that they have not discontinued the line and that they are in-stock and available. Granted, this was their customer service line and not the DSD Recorder Product Manager.  They stated that Korg UK is a completely different entity/distributorship and they may have decided to not carry that line but Korg USA is continuing to carry and support that product line.

Where the real story is....remains to be seen. Any new product updates will be announced mid-January during NAMM.

It's the MR-1 that's been discontinued, replaced by the MR-2.

I wonder what they call the MR-2 in France?

Wow, I feel like an ostrich with its head in the sand.  I've never heard of this box.  I've been looking for a stand-alone stereo A-to-D to mixdown to.  My Apogees are fine for recording but i really liked the Burl and Mytek when i did some mixes thru them and that has got me interested in alternatives.  this MR2000 sounds like it might be the ticket.  I'm now back to mixing down to 1/2" so the Burl is not so much in the running.
So you guys have positive experiences with the Korg for mixing?  I'd like to get one to try out.
thanks,
David

The KORG is like mixing to the best-aligned perfect 1/2" or 1" 2 track you can imagine.

No A/D-DA conversion comes close.

They must not have done a great job (at least at first) promoting and marketing this product, but they sure spent the time and money developing it.

How could I resist a statement like this coming from you!

Now in all seriousness, is there any reason to choose the MR2000 over the MR 1000 other than a preference for one forma factor over another?

Are they interchangeable from an audio standpoint?

Thanks!

My understanding is that not very many mastering houses have these boxes, so you may have to take it with you to your mastering sessions.  The portable one would make this easier.

it seems the 2000 has sexier meters.  but $1,200 vs $1,800 is a pretty large difference.
it seems that they have the same in/out features and 40 or 80 G capacity.  Sonics?
Terry, you say you use the portable.  Well, then it must be good......
(Wouldn't want to miss a spec of detail from my Lucas mics)

How do you guys handle the mastering issue then? All mastering houses already equipped with those?

And when not using a mastering house you have to convert back into a DAW for printing CDs, no?

Wouldn´t be the loss then too big here?

Well, hopefully, I'll get my #1 A+ mastering-man Peter Beckmann to buy one before they're unavailable in the UK completely! Smile

Of course I have mine in my own mastering room.

Recently I sent something to Greg @ Sterling and he had to hunt down a machine.

Brad has one in his room, others may as well.

You can easily carry or send the portable.

I'm thinking Greg should get one.  Since I think I'm going to get one!
