Maybe 20-30-50-80 could be a good spread for me?

Bax is selectable: Out, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 43, 54Hz (3dB down point, 12dB/oct)

I'm actually quite surprised that the HPF's in the MTC-2 console are so high (the lowest being 20Hz). The manual doesn't state how steep they are. Comment from any MTC-2 users? Or any who've had them modified?

The MTC-2 is designed to be used as a cutting console. Being dainty about an HPF is often not an option or simple a matter of taste.

Apparently the MTC-2's "garbage disposal" filters are crippled against half-schpeed cutting, in which case you would need to be able to go down to 10 cycles, yes?

Yes, although it seems equally intended for general mastering. If the filter is 6dB/oct it'd significantly eat into the passband, and if higher than 20Hz (as all its other filter selections are) many of us would agree the mix has serious issues. So, purely curious if any MTC-2 users had specified other filter options, especially as, when engaged, it's designed to condition the signal prior to any further routing, including the optional elliptical filter.

I would argue the opposite. If the mix falls apart because you put a 40Hz HPF then the mix has serious issues.

If the MTC-2 HPF/LPF and Stereo width/EE sections were available as a separate box I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Wish I could afford the whole hog.

However, what I'm looking for are several corners that are between 10 and 20 Hz.   I'm thinking about something like, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, and maybe the double-deuce (22) found on the stando massivo.

If filters had no effect on the parts of the spectrum that lie outside their bandwidth (Q), I'd settle on a 20 Hz switch.  But when I invoke any (natural) filter down at 20-ish, there's usually too much taken away from the good bass up through the low mids.
Then these filters have a serious design or implementation flaw. Having to shift the corner frequency nearly an octave away in order to prevent it gnawing at the useful range is extreme.
