Yes, I used to enjoy Dick Cavett's show.  Haven't thought about it in years.  Thanks for the memories.

The Sly Stone performance and interview is a classic!

Can't hear the overture to Candide without thinking of that show.

Remember watching these live on TV as a teenager, awestruck.

As I recall from that Hendrix interview, right afer Dick said that Jimi was one of the best guitarists around, he asked him who else he admired, and Jimi mentioned the as-yet-almost-unknown Billy Gibbons.

Is that clip out there anywhere?

Terry, Hendrix wore the same shirt on at least two different Cavett show appearances so the YouTube clips are quite disjointed without the rest of the show as context.  Also, there is apparently a documentary about Hendrix on the Cavett show where Dick talks at length about the shows and his admiration for Jimi.

What triggered this thread was Dick Cavett on some awful CNN show earlier this week where he spoke about his approach to his show, and it was so completely at odds with how TV operates now that I instantly wished he had a show again.  His columns over the past few years about his depression are really tremendous too.  He's one of the few legends I would like to meet.
