Behind the Music.
« on: August 23, 2004, 09:59:12 AM »

VH1 has started a new run of Behind the Music's.

man i get addicted to those shows.

AC/DC was awesome.....

anyway....something i've always noticed about AC/DC.

an SG, typically a pretty small guitar, look HUGE on Angus.  those are some small people the young family.

didn't see the show, but AC/DC is awesome.  when i was growing up they were totally not "cool" and i hated them on that princinple alone (totally retarded of course) but over the years they have turned into one of my favorites - and they're always on the radio.  thier economy in songwriting is just so awesome. and the records sound great, like those late 70s early 80s records are the best, where it's just straight BAND playing. before the wacky 80s production.  i love listening to that and like van halen "women & children first" and "fair warning".

such great stuff.

i love when bands ask me to get the "huge" guitar tone like on back in black.

i always say

"ok, aside from the gear, songwriting, and style......you just need to actually play together."

that's just two brothers playing the same thing....literally.....they are so tight it's sick!!!!

My favorite AC/DC quote from Guitar Player magazine:

GP: " Malcolm, we notice you never play any solos. Why's that?"

Malcolm Young: " It interferes with my drinking."

Always loved their guitar sounds. SG straight into a Marshall 100 watt, no pussy distortion pedals or other crap, just pure tone baby.

Hey now... I have a great deal of affection for the ridiculous gated drum reverbs on "Thunderstruck".

And by "ridiculous", I mean "awesome".

You know I never really got AC/DC until a few years ago. Somehow I thought they were supposed to be a heavy band. But  what they are is a really kickin' lean mean rock&roll band- Angus is one of the handful who can rip Chuck Berry licks and mean them! What an incredible soloist he is. Just blistering.

For me, a big part of the beauty of AC/DC is how much s p a c e there is in their songs and sound.

Another cool thing about them is their use of tempo. They don't just go fast fast fast.

The tempo of "Back in Black" is so slow, but so good.
