JAMAICA"S first female record producer, Sonia Pottinger, is dead.
Pottinger, who was ailing for some time, passed away earlier this week.

She opened the Tip Top Record shop in 1965 and began producing local acts the following year.

The first single produced by Pottinger was Every Night by Joe White and Chuck. She also produced the singles, The Ethiopians by Delano Stewart and Swing and Dine by the Melodians.

Pottinger also produced albums by Bob Andy, Marcia Griffiths, U Roy, Big Youth and Culture.

In 1974 she bought Duke Reid's Treasure Isle label shortly before his passing.
