Motorcycles!

I love them.  I only have bikes, no cars.

At the moment, I only have three:  two custom Harleys (a softail and a 1200 sportster) and my 'daily commuter':  a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 which is in true superbike trim: head done, Yoshi valve kit, cams, electrics and other goodies.

But, my true love is the Sportster which is now in full cafe racer trim:  clip-ons, rear-sets etc.

See ya on the road!

Although I started out on this one:
http://www.bergenteknomafia.com/pics/mc/sogn2.JPG
.. and it was a great bike;

the BMW F650GS was my big motorcycle love:
http://bergenteknomafia.com/pics/mc/stolsheim1small.jpg
Cross continent riding, gravel fun, passenger rides, track days, couriering.. There didn't seem to be anything it didn't do well.
Except going fast straight ahead. I'm a cornering sort of person, so it turned out to be less of an issue than I suspected.

Alas, as this was my day job:
index.php/fa/15597/0/
motorcycling grew less and less interesting over the years. Couriering on a motorcycle was a bore compared to the liberty one can take on a pedal bike.. So I kept on pedalling and got enough two wheel action as it was while working. The lack of a local race track was also a heavy influence. Silly lean angles doesn't work well in the long run if staying on public roads.

The current avatar pic was the retirement gift to myself after 8 years of street riding:
http://bergenteknomafia.com/pics/mc/bike2C.JPG

Have spent half the riding time off the beaten path since then. Slowly getting better at handling silly steep angles and strange obstacles. It's light enough to be fun while riding up the ~1500 feet local mountains and heavy duty enough to take the beating while slipsliding down again on the near downhill style tracks. Off roading gives much the same extactic joy as track riding used to do on the motorbike!

Lastly, as this is a thread for riders:

Stelvio pass in the Alps. 48 hairpins on one climb! Smile

To [mis]quote George Orwell, 'Two wheels good, four wheels bad'

My commute to the studio is a round trip of about 15 or so miles. I really like to cycle as often as I can, it means I arrive alert and oxygenated. The ride home after a long session is a great mind cleanser and refresher too.

Of course, I ride motorcycles too, so if it's my turn to pick up groceries and cook dinner for the family I travel on this:

I do love Ducatis, and this one is the best bike for two up travel I've ever had [and I've had plenty] Ridiculous acceleration braking and all round handling. Plus room for a change of clothes and shoes!

My road bike is Italian too...

@ John: panniers on the trek? What would Lance say!

@ Andreas I have a 650 GS as my winter motorbike.  I've ridden the Stelvio pass and quite a few other alpine passes. Always awesome.

If I were a biker, it would look like one of these...

But it would not be as nice looking. (;

Old school.

This was a few years ago... Ducati 749 (street), ST4s (tour), and 748r (track):

One Milwaukee winter, this was on display in the Mastermind studio lounge:

Current track weapon: 2006 Suzuki GSXR 1000. This was taken while I was instructing at Carolina Motorsports Park, Kershaw, SC:

Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, 2008 - instructing. This was the older paint job on the bike, which showcased the studio logo a bit better....

Thanks!  Very Happy

I was thinking exactly the same thing as I was reading this thread. I always wear plugs on distance rides and at the track... for short scoots around town sometimes I don't.

Wisconsin is a helmet optional state, North Carolina requires one... I always wear one no matter what.

Yea, EveAnna is a rider... interestingly enough she owns (or used to own) a Honda Hawk 650... a darn cool motorcycle (the start of the "naked" sport bike)... and has had service done by a friend of mine, JD Hord... who specializes in Hawks and Ducatis....  anyway, a colliding of words for me.

Always fun to see what hobbies people on here have... after all, we have to have something to do when we're not in the studio!

best,
