Ron Sexsmith film, with Bob Rock
« on: September 14, 2010, 12:17:56 PM »

Ron Sexsmith is one of my favorites, and I'm really curious to hear his new album, which was produced by Bob Rock. Apparently this process was filmed, so there might be something of interest for studio geeks and those curious about Bob Rock's methods. Not having seen it, I can't speak for it, but it might be cool.

I hope this film screens in Australia.

His songs never really moved me much although I know some people love his stuff,  and he seems like a nice guy. He's had a lot of hype over the years.
Should be quite a change of style for Bob. Interesting for sure to hear how it pans out.

I felt that way about Ron's stuff at first, but then it clicked and he became one of my favorites. I went from thinking, "it's dull, all sounds the same and I don't like his voice" to feeling that I really connected with it. My favorite of his albums is "Whereabouts" though "Retriever" might be a good place to start, if you felt like giving him another shot.

Seems that with the advent of inexpensive cameras and editing software, there are tons of documentaries popping up, whether it's the Mellotron flick, the Raymond Scott film, Harry Nilsson, Scott Walker, Wrecking Crew, The Jack Mullin film, etc, etc. Good times for geeks and fans.
