Burl makes products that are not the "straight wire with gain" type. They believe that current digital audio is lacking in some of the richness of the analog recording days and their products help give some of that back to us while still being quiet and having a full frequency response.I have the B1 preamp and both the A/D and D/A. Really nice pieces that, by their nature, are not always the choice in a given situation but always provide a unique take on the process.
Good stuff and built like the proverbial brick crapper, too.

I'm enjoying my B2 ADC.  Yes, built like a tank.  The input trim control lets you "ring" the transformer a bit and I think the bass sounds great through it.  (That's the only area I'm qualified to comment on...)
