Aluminium corrosion
« on: May 10, 2010, 09:24:23 AM »

How do I stop it?

On boats we strap a piece of zinc to the propeller shaft and the corrosion eats the zinc but what can I do on land to stop or slow it down?

Thanks

On a boat it's an electrolytic reaction... galvanic reactions and electrolysis differ, so we might need to learn a little more about the situation...

If you anodize the metal it should become largely inert (although salt-water is capable of doing a lot.)

I have the feeling that I have more experience in my little finger than you do in your whole body about audio electronics..

....and make sure you don't leave copper nails about when you work on your boat. Copper eats aluminium for dinner.
