Ideas for a subwoofer for Yamaha NS1000M ?
« on: April 08, 2010, 12:57:51 AM »

Anyone got experience of adding a subwoofer system to Yamaha NS-1000M?

I've owned many pairs of these in the past, ever since Keith Olson turned me on to them in 1976, and used them as midfields. Transient response/low distortion  astonishing  ( the Beryllium...) and totally unflattering.

As I don't have a studio anymore/currently, I've now given my much-loved Yamaha B-1 amp to a good friend of mine to drive his NS-1000M's , and we like the idea of adding a subwoofer to extend the range, and want something that will suitably complement the NS-1000M's in his small control room.

Any suggestions for an active subwoofer system, (or discretes with a x-over ) gratefully received,

Cheers,

Gwyn

Hi Gwyn,

Maybe try the Velodynes?

Seen it a lot in mastering studios (D12).

why not try some full range monitors instead of adding a sub to the Yamaha mid-range box... LOL
