DC Choke 1.5 H - Acoustic 370
« on: March 22, 2010, 10:31:43 PM »

One of the chokes on my Acoustic 370 Bass Heads EQ's is dead and I can't seem to find a replacement.  Harvey or Jim Williams any ideas where I might score one?

Thanks,

Judging from the size of the inductor, that is hopefully a 1.5 millihenry inductor. A henry is a very large amount of inductance, far more than is typically used in an audio circuit. If you pull a good inductor out of the circuit, you could measure it and determine the value with a LCR bridge or multimeter with a LCR function.

Are you certain that the inductor has failed?  Usually they are not the problem in an audio circuit; I've seen many more transistors, diodes and capacitors go than inductors.  It might be worth it to re-solder the inductor back in and see if it is a cold solder joint under the inductor.

If you are looking for electronic parts, both
http://www.digikey.com/
and
http://www.mouser.com/
are good to know about and should have some lines of inductors which can electronically replace your part (physical fit may be an issue).

Harvey was involved with Acoustic in the 1970s and might have some additional information on this.

Thanks, yes we are sure the choke has failed, we have moved it to a different location and the problem moves with it.  I have searched both Mouser and Digikey for a replacement part, unless I have overlooked it, they do not have one.  FYI - the reason I posted on Harvey's forum is because I knew of his background with at Acoustic.

Thanks again,

Tim,  there's a thread about these inductors over at the Acoustic forum:

There are a few possible sources listed there
