My mix is done!  Had to do it early or I knew I'd miss this one too.  Excited to hear how everyone's turned out!

nice power pop tune, I put up The Knack's "Get The Knack" as a reference and went old school mixing on NS10's... it would have been nice to have a snare bottom mic on the drums.

yes, I made a sample right out of a track that I was mixing a couple days ago. That helps in opening up the kit - EQ'ing the snare track didn't do it for me, too much "P

Fun tune. Very nice job on the recording. I hear some Transient Designer on the snare. Sounds like an AC-15 on the guitars. Jazz bass hitting a dbx 165 ? I like to guess Smile

One reason for not submitting mixes early is so that people aren't copying each others mixes.

I was not present for the tracking of drums and bass, so i cannot say for certain.  But since the bass was played by Joey Canaday, it's a safe bet that it was indeed a Jazz (or Jaguar bass... same thing).  His outboard rack has changed over the years, so I'm not going to wager a guess on what compression he used for this particular session (though it definitely sounds like dbx).  I don't believe there was any transient designer on snare, but it was recorded with a Yamaha mic that tends to have a lot more snap than the typical sm57 setup.  Plus, the drummer wasn't exactly a light hitter.

Guitars were played by Mike Durham, and if I recall correctly, he didn't have his cartage rig because the artist was trying to do this on the cheap, so it was just his Marshall 20-watt JMP.  I used an SM57 and Royer 121 bussed together into a GML 8200 and a DBX 160.

Ahhhh the 20 watt JMP. A very sweet sounding version of the classic Marshall tone. I recorded one of those once. It was an old original one. Did Marshall re-issue those? Do you remember what kind of speaker cabinet? Very nice guitar tones on the this little ditty.

Thanks.  Mike has great tone.  His JMP is definitely old.  I don't remember (as this track was recorded almost two years ago), but I think he ran it into my VHT 4x12 w/ V30s.  But I could be mixing my sessions up.

i shouldn't have to do this, but i'm publicly asking that we all just take it easy tomorrow.  i FULLY expect this IMP, to be typical........and not a lynching.

BTW, Kyle, what's with the white noise in the overheads......oh those are cymbals........SO glad you didn't track the drums, i couldn't resolve that....
