CR 's with a parabolic shape
« on: March 01, 2010, 06:00:49 AM »

Hi all,

Last week I saw the ground plan for a new CR at a Music Production School, where I teach a couple of hours every week.

Quite surprisingly, the architect opted for a parabolic shape at the back of the CR.

Is this at all workable in terms of acoustics?
I'm just thinking about the possible focus point(s)
And where would you want to put the couch? Smile

Construction hasn't begun yet, and I'm sure their budget is limited. So I feel they should tackle most problems at the design stage...

Looks like it's all drywall too...

kind regards

Thomas,

I had a similar reaction. Rolling Eyes

But I thought that maybe there was a new law in physics developed when I wasn't paying attention... Cool

thanks for confirming my suspicion

Is it possible those are false walls with treatment behind them?

Unfortunately, the current proposal is without any treatment....

But, because of my remarks, we did had a meeting with the architect present.

I drove them around and showed them existing places, rehearsal rooms, etc. To give an idea how rooms can sound.

Afterwards there was an informal meeting I set up, with a retired acoustician, who's work I know really well. All this just to explain the basics & to get a fresh perspective, steer away from the current problematic issues.

I saw the architect taking a lot of notes.

Can only hope, that the plans will be more promising & that in the future, they will be willing to pay for proper (calculated) advice.

In any case, I want to thank you guys, for confirming my suspicions.

kindest regards,
