Audio interface compatible with Sun Solaris &Sparc?
« on: February 22, 2010, 11:45:19 AM »

Its an odd question I know, but Im locked into the Sun Sparc to do some basic 4 channel recording. Are you aware of any audio interfaces that are compatible with the Sun Solaris OS which uses the Spark processor? I have found Sun Hardware compatibility lists for Solaris but using Intel X86. It could be any interface, PCI, USB etc.
Thank you for any tips

Wow. This is going back a ways...

I don't think any commercial audio hardware manufacturers ever wrote SPARCstation/Solaris drivers for their devices. iirc, any audio hardware support for those systems was written and pre-compiled by Sun engineers themselves, or was open source.

I think your best bet is to download and install the latest version of OSS that is compatible with your SPARCstation and version of Solaris, then go hunting for the most suitable audio interface supported by that version of OSS. You may have to go hunting for a used device, but eBay and Craigslist never cease to amaze...

Best of luck,

Paul
