Vicoustic products - any experience?
« on: January 13, 2010, 08:10:49 AM »

Just a quick enquiry to find out if anyone has any experience of http://www.vicoustic.com/ products?

I am interested in using the vari-panel product in particular for a smallish (5.2 x 4.5m) live room design.

link for vari-panel http://www.vicoustic.com/ProdutoInfo.asp?Id=63

I have no experience with their products - but at Musik Messe 2-3 years ago I was at booth almost in front of theirs and the couple guys working there were very nice to hang out with, and were competent.

I had a quick look at the stuff they dipslayed and it seemd to be of good quality.

Any users around?

Well, I have the flexi-wall and it sucks.

Although it does what it's supposed to do (kind of), it's design is crap.

The pole in wich the foam squares are attached is really cheap and it's impossible to keep straight up. The base of the wall is also very light and unstable.

I've had them for about a year and a half and find them almost unusable. I'm glad I just bought one package!

I've never seen the vari panel, but it seems exactly the same as the ones in the flexi-wall, but with the wood thing.

So is this a free standing item?
Acoustically does it perform well, when not suffering droop?

Yes, the flexi-wall consists in 3 panels attached to a pole.

The panels aren't bad, a bit too absorptive for my taste but they're ok. But like I said before, it's impossible to use them because of the stupid design of the wall.

And personally I think they're overpriced.

I know Vicoustic products very well because the guy who designs them is a colleague and a friend of mine. I even sell some of their products where I live.

That being said, some products are quite good, and others are not good at all. And actually the VariPanel is actually a nice product.

The Flexiwall is very different from the VariPanel which is not supposed to be movable.

You really glue it to the wall and remove or place a wood cap that changes the acoustics of the panel. Actually the most similar product from the VariPanel is the A50 or A75; the VariPanel is the A50 ur the A75 but with the extra wood cap that makes it more reflective.

I think ther products have the nicest optical design ever.
The look realy cool, and can upgrade a studio very well, when the products are used in the right way.

I am very intrested in their new VariBass Resonator.
A helmholtzresonator which can be tuned and retunded as often you need.
i will order a pair to test, and hope they will find some use in my small recordingbooth.

cheers
Constantin

Hi

Flexi Wall was made to be easy to move,  it is not a proper acoustic treatment. Its is just for reduce energy.

We have so many customer happy with the solution, TV satiation, radio, home  studios.
Please see the Link.

Jorge,

I just had the pleasure of visiting your country last week. It was a beautiful place to be sure. I was working on a Griffin monitor installation in Torres Vedras for Nelson Canoa. He has put together quite a nice new studio and the monitors sounded great... Just wanted to say hello...
