Google threaten to pull out of China
« on: January 13, 2010, 12:08:31 AM »

Interesting news from Google:

Reading between the lines, it seems that the Chinese government have been hacking Google. Scary.

China is experiencing massive prosperity growth.  I am wondering how long the suppression can continue to hold on to the populace as their culture ingests our wealth.

Not to say that our government doesn't break in to places, but China's overt suppression of world news is going to become ridiculous to its citizens.

Not to say that our government doesn't ....but China's

We visited Shanghai and Beijing last year, and really enjoyed the experience, I would recommend it to anyone.

The person who was showing us around Shanghai has lived in Hong Kong for many years, and travels frequently on the mainland. He was saying that there has been somewhat of a loosening of censorship in the big cities, allowing a more sophisticated segment of the population to "blow off steam."

Where they are tighter, according to Chris is in the rural areas, where education levels are typically lower and, ostensibly, propaganda and control of information are more effective and yet vulnerable at the same time.

In any event, it will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

No comparison. We're far from perfect, but what could you type on this forum that would result in police at your door?

This is very interesting to watch. As China develops a middle class, it become harder and harder to maintain a closed society.
