I use the Flux Capacitor for this... it works great.

In MS mode, of course....

Why would you do anything "micro" when you can do everything "macro"?

I think each person should decide what the term means, and then name it after himself.

Maybe that chart would help.

Giving an example of what I understand from it;

Probably everybody heard the song "bring me to life" from evanescence, silent piano+vocal intro then explosion with guitars to end intro...

Lets say we're mastering that song (till begining of guitars entry) and at one point a single note was played too loud on the piano (kills musical feeling), if I lower gain there with narrow multiband comp. or simply gain automation this is manipulating micro dynamics.

After correcting this, I realize that the part where intro ends the guitars doesn't give that "explosion" feeling. There are various ways to fix this but to keep it simple, lets say only gain adjustment is enough. So I either decrease the gain of whole intro or increase gain of the rest of the song, this is manipulating macro dynamics.

I hope I understand this right...Mr. Katz? Smile

Microdynamics seems to me to be a pretty good word to describe that aspect of what we all do (a bit, and most of the time) and I doubt that anyone is claiming any different or any more than that.

I'll second that. I too think the distinction can be useful when communicating with other engineers and the term seems to be fitting.
