I just started sharing my studio space with another guy. I have a background of 'apprenticeship' in real studios with real engineers. He does not, having probably learned much of what he knows from that 'other' forum. I am amazed at some of the things I take for granted that he is not aware of, and at some of the basic things that he has had no exposure to. He is, however, a bright and creative young guy and will undoubtedly make a great engineer if he decides to keep practicing the craft. 'Evolution' tends to make those kinds of decisions for us in the long run.
And in defense of GS re: JJ's original link, the advice that guy got was solid, to the point, and pretty consistent. He could've done much worse.
