Help needed for basement studio/writing room pics attached
« on: February 02, 2010, 05:05:55 PM »

I'm in the process of setting up my basement. This is a make over from a previous setup I also included a pic of my old room.

I'm in the process of building new panels and I'll be using my old corner bass traps. Here's what I got so far. The entire back wall in the diagrams is made of 4" OC703 panels covered in GOM and both corners have floor to ceiling bass traps that are fully enclosed 1' plywood stuffed with angel hair pink fiberglass with 4 inches of OC703 in front. All the side and ceiling (not included in diagrams but entire ceiling is covered) are 2" OC703 panels.

The size of the room is as follows:
Front wall is 12" across
Ceilings are 7.5" high
Front to back the room is 21"
and the little boxed in section to the left of the mix position is 2" wide, 6" deep and 5" high.

Does my panel layout seem logical or would there be a better approach and better choices I could go with? Keep in mind the desk and speaker placement is simply to show the orientation of the room and approximate. I don't have a desk as of yet and need to determine the best position for monitors etc..

No, but you have a tricky place since the lack of symetry, and i am 200% involeved in my own studio build, and have no free time to think about your room
sorry Rolling Eyes

Hmmm.

I really like your OLD setup.

Are you changing now to make part of the room a separate recording area?

Fair enough!

About the symetry.....I've decided to take down the wall on the left of my mix position and put up a new wall that will run parallel to the right wall. The wall will be straight, removing the "boxed" area entirely. I've included a new Sketchup reflecting this change....hopefully this makes my room a little more "coherent"

I moved out of my house for a year to work overseas. I now moved back in and as a result I have to put my studio back together.

The desk and C24 in the Sketchup are only stock components I used. I don't own a C24 or that desk. I placed them to help identify my mix position.

The room had this little boxed in section on the left that I wanted to get rid of and lacked treatment as well. I'm having a smaller custom desk built to accommodate some new equipment I have.
