Hello everyone! This is my first post so I'll just be frank and not attempt to sound non-noobish. I'm looking to start recording drum tracks on a entry but educational level. Just get my foot in the door. I'm looking for:

- An Interface with 4+ channel simultaneous recording. (snare, kick, 2 overheads?).

- Versatility among DAWS

- The mics

-the preamps

-anything else I need besides the room treatment. I know it's important but I'll work with what I have until I really know wtf I'm doing. (My space is about 10'X 22' with a gable roof (triangle)

As usual I do not have a lot of money.
I've looked at the M-Audio's Fast Track Ultra. Is this a good choice for me? Do the 4 preamps it comes with work for my situation? If this is the right thing, what else do I need to get started on a bare-bones level?

If I missed anything would love to be filled in. Thanks so much fellas.

The M-Audio Fast Track Ultra should be fine.  As for mics, here's a bare bones list that will do a decent job:

Kick: Audio Technica ATM25 or Pro25 - about $100 used on ebay.

Snare: Shure SM57 - about $50 used on ebay.

Overheads: Naiant X-T/D - about $60 each new.

But I'd ditch the 57 and get one more X-T/D (with an inline -18dB pad) or one more AT25.

I think you are wise to pay heed to room treatment and acoustics. A lot of people treat such things as secondary to gear.
