The placement will obviously be the best possible compromise in that room, otherwise they wouldn't have chosen it.

For the same reasons we can't judge a room's acoustics from a picture, we can't assume this either.

Either we know or we don't. We can't have it both ways. Smile

It also sounds absolutely jaw-dropping. It's proof that many of the internet ideas on acoustics are simply old-wives tales.

Whilst I dont have as much experience as many engineers who frequent this forum, Ive certainly learned this to be true over the years.
There are sound principles in acosutics, and many times following them will provide a great starting point in designing or treating a room.
But when it comes down to it, seemingly minor details about the space and the room construction can throw a serious curveball at the theory.

Just spoke with the Focal rep. He said because of the Mix cover/story, they have placed 2-3 pairs of the $180k Grande Utopias in other mastering rooms.

Someone must be doing well...

At that price, I would think one would know if it were two...or three...

So maybe afterall it is a marketing stunt.

Hey Bruce!

Actually it's one more pair in a new mastering studio in Montreal. To my knowledge, these are the only 2 rooms with Grande Utopia EM as their mastering speaker.

Cheers!

Interesting discussion.  Beautiful speakers.  I'd love to hear them.

I'd love to hear them as well.

Best regards,
Steve Berson

I invite you both, and anyone else on the forum, to come by for a listen. Are you coming to the AES in November? We'll set something up.

Regarding all the other speculation on this thread, all I will say is I'm touched by your concern.

Anyway, you drive your car and I'll drive mine. It's not a Bugatti, by the way. I figure anyone whose speakers don't cost ten time more than his car just doesn't have his priorities straight.

I'd love to hear 'em Paul. Hopefully get to AES this fall.

I've never riden in a Bugatti : - )

Excellent video on Michael's room as well.

Hey Simon...   guess I just misunderstood Bob.

I've heard the Utopias 5 or 6 times. They do amazing things.

Looks like I don't have my priorities straight.
