No Mine get HR too

I'm about -15 db RMS...

I always mix with these levels!  Embarassed

I let the LOUD job by the master engineer  Rolling Eyes

In this case... no mastering but it's mix exercise!!!

mastering is antoher thing (IMO) and needs other GEAR, ROOM, skills and competences

Here's my mix...

http://www1.prosoundweb.com/imp/files/IMP23_MiguelM.mp3

I've alread heard some of others mixes and my first impression is that most of them are way louder than mine... Am I the only one that printed the mix with headroom?

i always print a mix and then apply a limiter to it to boost the level. it gives me an idea as to what it will be like in mastering with a limiter on it, plus it ends the complaints from bands as to why its so quiet. just what i'm used to doing.

btw, your mp3 is 320 instead of 192.

The guitars are out of tune...

Perhaps the guy who track it can explain what happened???

9/42 strings?

bad guitars?

Not enough time to to check between recs?

11/53 strings.

PRS Custon 22 w/ wraparound bridge.

PLENTY of time.

CULPRIT?

Didn't care enough.  Weren't so out of tune that it bothered me.  I was hauling ass getting through the guitar parts and  by the time I figured it out I just didn't really care.  It's gotten to the point that it's something charming to me in the mix now that I've heard it 8 hajillion times.

And they're only really out of tune in the verses.

I always leave plenty of headroom too, but for things like this or sending an mp3 to a client, I put a limiter over the output to boost the level. The limiter was taking 1dB off the top only.

wow, stumbled into this forum this afternoon by accident (thought i was clicking on 'whatever works'). anyways, didn't know you guys did this here.

downloaded the tracks and gave it a quick go in Reaper over my lunch break today.  funny, as i spend most of my time with blues acts, i don't think i've dealt with a song with more than 3 guitar tracks in years. talk about different!  Smile

there was a lot to sift through in a very short time, so this is minimal.
coupla notes:
- no reverbs, or delays.
- only used about half of the many drum tracks
- no automation at all. pretty much a static mix.  i.e no time to ride vocal levels or any of those little geetar fills, etc.

probably doesn't sound anything like the artist originally intended, but it was a fun lunch hour. thanks to whoever posted these tracks for the diversion. hope i didn't embarrass myself Smile
