I'm getting in way over my head.  Like why does some gear suck and other gear rock?

The STC-8 is a great bus compressor... and I have no idea what you're talking about vis a vis the FATSO Jr.  I have found that thing to be a life saving Godsend on so many occasions I can't begin to count them.

Peace.

consider sending it in for service if it sounds really bad to you.  Maybe it has a bad whizzzigig.

Perhaps the problem is that he's expecting the FATSO Jr. to do "alchemy" [as in fix things that can't be fixed]... or is trying to employ the tool in an incorrect application.  I've found it to be very well applicable to "rounding" out a sound that seems to have some 'jagged edged'... but its not a "buss compressor" by any stretch of the imagination [though it can perform the function, I have rarely found it to be the best application of the tool].

Peace.
