Needed ASAP Is Soundtrax Solo Logic Worthy?
« on: October 30, 2009, 12:43:15 AM »

I really need the skinny on a SoundTrax Solo Logic 24 x 8 x 24 x 2. I've never had Google fail me but there's little on this console to be found. The few things found were  positive, the British Eq mojo, how many claim that? The VCA and Mute Automation which I'd love to read about but there's nothing to read.

I don't need pres but need a 24 x 24 with ample inserts, direct outs, sends, returns, auxs, etc. etc. etc, with good routing and sounds when emitted sound at least as good as when they went in.

But there are no hits on search's where one normally looks for consoles. So anybody with a site, a PDF manuel or some history either with the Solo Logic or about it would be fine.

The fact that it fits my needs and is reasonably priced and is an ANALOG console of which I need. But I don't want just beh, and sense I can't find a photo except the one attached of the actual console, is it Modular,it appears to be man I hope like hell.

The guys gone till next week so I can't get info so any help on this console would be appreciated, regards ,,deda,index.php/fa/13679/0/

A studio I work in used to have one of these. My professional opinion is that they are suited for making demos, not so good for making commercial releases (though I'm not saying you can't do it). I think the major flaw is low headroom, and everything ends up sounding a bit dinky. It's a shame because the features & layout are quite good for a compact console.

They are not modular. I remember the one I worked on having constant annoying little problems. Even great old desks have problems, but I'm guessing a non-modular desk is more of a pain to fix. It's not the worst desk I've used, but I'm glad I don't have to use one anymore.

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your detailed professional opinion, I couldn't ask for anything better. The fact that you worked on it and dealt with it's flaws and low head room and dinky are damn major flaws and then it's not modular. Working on that damn thing would be a nightmare. Delbert McClinton said it best "Thanks But No Thanks Baby, I Got All The Trouble I Need"

While the goods new posted killed that deal the subject is the same the console is different and if you are anyone else is familiar with the Soundcraft 6000 36 x 24 please a pass it on.

I've got 36 vintage and high end pres so don't need that. I've plenty of vintage and high end eqs, so I don't need that, just buttloads of ins and outs, great routing, a sonic presence suited to puck rock, all for $500.00 of course.

As always thanks, with your post I am now 11 for 11 in answers to important questions and fast. No place like here, no place, regards ,,deda,,

I'm guessing you're working with a DAW?  ...and want to get into 'analog summing'?

Check out any of the myriad of summing boxes... the Folcrom works very well and will give you the option to use two of your 36 channels of outboard pre-amps as your main buss amplifiers during that mix process.  You can get two [32 inputs] for like $1500 which should do ya quite nicely if you have that much D/A capability.

Peace.

If you google "soundtracs"  you should get a lot more information.  Most Soundtracs boards can be upgraded with better opamps that really open them up.  You can do searches for soundtracs on this forum and on Gearslutz and you should find a number of hits.

I encounter this opamp hopscotch thing now and again.  I believe that, components are only as good as the circuit design that they inhabit.  If you have examples of upgrades, share.  I take GS with a large pinch of salt.  Full of tossers IMO.  But, I could be wrong.

It is not my choice of internet intercourse.  Prefer PSW.  Better class of tosser.

Be lucky.

I was looking at one of these.

It is modular...if you care to flip it on its back and take the back panel off, but a pta. Not like a Mackie.

I do have a fairly detailed brochure in PDF if you want. PM me

Tim at Studio Systems advises to forget about the automation as it does not work with modern DAW's. The Mutes and Snapshot is useful though.

One thing to be aware of is that there is only one pre-aux available. You cannot get both in either the channel or monitor at the same time.

I passed as it seems that the audio is going through the VCA all the time, not sure if that has an effect on perceived headroom or not. Also no mono sum switch..

Soundcraft 6000 are nice consoles, but getting on a bit now, so will need tlc. I learnt on one. Very easy to use.

I've opted in the end for a much older Soundtracs PC midi that has been well maintained and serviced. Pick it up tomorrow in fact. Fully modular.
