Let's Talk M-Audio Sputnik - Is there a more budget friendly, better tube alternative?

I'd love opinions on this one (as I'm looking to add a mic to my setup).  Mainly I'm looking to do vocals and mic a guitar cab from 3-4' or further in a room.

Thanks in advance! Shocked

How much is the Sputnik?  I like the MXL 960 a lot for vocals at $150.

I'm trying to find samples of the 960 but am having trouble.  How do you feel about it for cabs?

What about the Karma K58?

Actually - what about non-tube in an SM7B for vocals and guitar cab?

Now you're outta the "budget" mic range.  For that sound at a low price, try a used Beyer Soundstar MK II.

I'd take an SM7b over a sputnik any day of the week.

I can't hear you.  Can you run your speech through a limiter for me?

A stock Alctron HST 11a (Apex 460 etc) was preferred by almost a 2:1 margin over the Sputnik in a recent shootout.
