Advice Needed on project Studio
« on: July 19, 2004, 11:15:53 AM »

Hello guys,

I have a small bedroom studio at the moment consisting of the following:

PC (P4 3.0 1 gig ram, SATA RAID etc)
Digi001 (using only the analog outputs)
Mackie Hr824
Korg Triton (analog outs)
Allen & Heath GL2000 16x4 mixer.

I use Logic 5.1 as my sequencer / Tracking program.

I just purchased the Allen & Heath GL2000 16 x 4 Mixing board, and as expected, the digi001 seems to be the weakest link in my studio setup.  I've only recently learned that outputs 3-8 on the stupid thing are at -10 and 1-2 are +4.  I'd really like more I/O to take advantage of the routing on the mixing console, and I'm toying with some options.  (Please bear in mind I am a broke drum and bass producer and don't have tens of thousands of dollars for studio gear).

1. An ADAT tape machine, or an ADAT converter of some type (RME?) to frontend the digi001 for more analog I/O's.

2. Replacing the Digi001 with either RME ($$$$) or a pair of MOTU 828 MkII's.

Has anyone used either of these options, or have anything they might suggest?  Ideally i'd like 16 + analog I/O's, and some ADAT I/O for future expansion.  Low Latency is very important, as i produce almost exclusively with Softsynths.

I'm relatively new to the technical side of things, so please be nice Very Happy

Cheers!

The Behringer ADA8000 really is a good way to add 8 channels on ADAT. Internally it uses the same chip as an ADAT machine has.

I've also got an 828mkII and have been exceptionally happy with it.
