I'm not trying to scare you. You would be well served by making their acquaintance. They both have 60+ years of experience in disk recording and deep technical knowledge.

Heh, sorry, maybe I shouldn't have taken the facetiousness that far. Wink

You are quite right - I may (nay, will) learn a very great deal from them.

Unfortunately, I'm going to miss this years geekfest.

I'll be in Chicago at the Chicago International Film Festival with my stunning significant other, screening her award winning film.

Have fun drooling on the gear though.

As a consolation prize I'm gonna give all of you pasty studio-tan-havin' freaks my pics for good eatin' while you're in NYC.

Cheap:

Mamoun's Falafel http://www.yelp.com/biz/mamouns-falafel-new-york-2 The falafel is world famous. The lamb sandwich is my personal favorite. It's open till at least 4am. Perfect for that shameful walk home from the bar right after you've struck out with that cute girls fat friend.

Speaking of fat friends. If you like pizza [huh?] try Joe's pizza http://www.joespizza.com/ It's not as good as it used to be, but if you're not from NY/NJ it's way better than what YOU are used to [sorry Chicago, THAT is not pizza].

It's also open real late, like most good things in NYC.

Hint: If that's not enough to satisfy that emptiness in your soul, or if you're convinced you're gonna live forever you could always walk up 6th ave a few blocks to Gray's Papaya. http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/grays-papaya01/. for some recession special hot dogs.

For under 10 bucks you could have so much sodium, cheese, beef and beef byproducts that you're sure to be "fixed and dilated" by the time your friends come 'round the hotel room to find out why you missed the Sterling Sound tour with Greg Calbi.

Alternatively you could get your fat-ass on at Bleeker Street Pizza. http://bleeckerstreetpizza.com/ I'm actually starting to like this pizza a little more than Joe's but that's a little like picking Angelina Jolie over Charlize Theron. No matter how you slice it, you don't deserve either one.

If you insist on sitting down like grown women [I prefer it standing up] I suggest John's Pizza       http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/7116744/new_york_ny/jo hn_s_of_bleecker_street.html, also on Bleecker [there are an insane number of great pizza joints in this neighborhood].

Moderate [by NYC standards]:

Manganaro Restaurant & Catering [NOT hero boy!]. There are two Manganaro's side by side [488 9th ave and 494 9th ave]. The families don't talk [they must be Sicilian]. The Restaurant and catering joint looks old school 'cause it is. The sandwich area is in the back. This place is better. Just trust me.

If you're a fan of Schnitzel and beer check out Halo Berlin. http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/hallo-berlin/ It has great German comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere in the new heart of gay manhattan - Hells' Kitchen. You'll wish you'd worn your Jackboots.

Molly's Pub. 287 3rd Avenue near 22nd Street

Fancy a pint and a shepherd's pie? Sure you do.
Lookin' for a fistfight? Nah, you're an engineer. You're not lookin' for a fistfight [if you are, you could always put a little stereo spread on one of JJ Blair's mixes].

Molly's has your beer and your pie but it's unlikely you'll get all pugilistic there.

They don't make Irish Pubs like they used to.

Expensive:

Got and expense account? From a country with a favorable exchange rate? Well it's your time to shine Big Daddy.

Sushi:

Morimoto. http://www.morimotonyc.com/ It's fancy and expensive and glamorous, in a Vegas kinda way. Just ask Phil Demetro and Noah Mintz. They took me there for lunch after I mastered Noah's record.

Canadians are nice.

As an added bonus you'll be dining in the same building that houses Sterling Sound.  Isn't it nice to know that while you're stuffing your gob we'll be right upstairs in the Death Star plotting your demise?

BTW, as long as you're popping for the top end sushi you may as well have the Oyster with Foie gras appetizer. It's the second best thing I've ever put in my mouth.

For a more relaxed sushi experience [still amazing food] try Tomoe http://nymag.com/listings/restaurant/tomoe-sushi/. It's a good alternative if you'd rather not be surrounded by models.

Steak:

Right across the street is Tom Colicchio's Craft Steak.

Don't go there.

If you want steak go to The Old Homestead. http://www.theoldhomesteadsteakhouse.com/ or Peter Lugers in Brooklyn.http://www.peterluger.com/.

That's it for now kids.
You and your cardiologists can thank me later.

The Gingerman is pretty close to the convention, isn't it? How good is it? (Especially in comparison to the one in Austin?)

Manganaro Restaurant & Catering [NOT hero boy!]. .

Manganaro's is standard excellent Sicillian food. Not much different than any joint in the former Itallian West Village or Carrol Gardens or Bensonhurst. Hero boy is in it's own class. Not as good by traditional metrics. I'll take Hero Boy.

You see Paul.

This is how wars start.

I totally agree with your assessment however. I'm Sicilian mostly. Up until recently I lived in the last remaining italian part of the west village [Sullivan St]. I lived in Carrol Gardens for 10 years and had a girlfriend from Bensonhurst for that same decade [btw, you ever been to L&B Spimoni gardens? I love that place.. and Lenny's too, for the Grandmama pizza!].

I picked Manganaro's for it's proximity to the Javitz and even though they are close in quality, I'll take the old school grocery store 'cause of the aesthetics, if you care about such things, and you can get a nice hard salami and sharp provolone for the road there if your smart. All the better to stink up you hotel room with.

So much good food in NYC. It's an endless subject.

Like Vietnamese food? Drag your ass down to Nha Trang http://www.zagat.com/Verticals/PropertyDetails.aspx?VID=8&am p;R=50385.
The one on Centre st, not the one on Baxter [here we go again!]. The place looks like a cafeteria and the service is kinda rushed but the food is dirt cheep and damn good. Go early though, they close at 9:30pm.

Discuss.

Well we mostly agree but that's never prevented a good war.

Nope but it's on the list. I just moved to Greenpoint from Flatbush so it's a hike.

I do. And I like Hero Boy. They gutted the place a few years ago and did it up in modern awful. I think it adds to ambiance. There is something to be said for the old style grocery store vibe. The screaming crazy owner also makes for an enjoyable dining experience.

BTW I saw someone who looked a lot like you eating at Hero Boy at the last NY AES.

I submit that the eggplant parmigiana is the best in NY.
